Poor man's paradise

This is the cover from Poor Man's Paradise (Columbia, 1973). The title song, by Jack Lee, features a tug-of-war between a driving horn section and Tracy singing full tilt. The album features two other Lee tunes.

Most noteworthy, however, is Buskin's beautiful "When I Need You Most of All," with Andy McMahon's piano and Lee's guitar articulating a "gentle but affirming" feeling that's difficult to describe, other than to say, "ahead of your time."

Nelson uses story form to advantage in "Cruel Wind," accompanying herself on the piano. This "story" song has the "feel" of Bob Dylan's "Percy's Song," a take on a British Isles tune, "Bowes of London" ... "the only song my guitar (fiddle) would play is the old tune, the rain and the wind."
